Q. What is the MSAC FlowRider?

A. The MSAC FlowRider is a basic sheet wave machine available for leisure and recreation activities including  body boarding, body surng or stand up boarding. It is a leading leisure water activity that attracts families  and the community to participate in riding wave boards in a controlled and safe environment.

The MSAC FlowRider will be the first of its type in Victoria.

Q. Why is MSAC building a FlowRider?

A. The FlowRider will add to your experience at MSAC, providing opportunities to the Victorian public to experience surng in a fun, relaxed and safe environment. 
 
MSAC will increase the range of aquatic sport and community recreation activities on oer to the public with this latest and leading leisure water addition that oers body boarding, wake boarding and surng. 
 
Double the fun will also be on oer as MSAC will build a double FlowRider to provide more enjoyment and options for the community, families, school groups and corporate functions.

Q.How does the MSAC FlowRider operate?

A. MSAC FlowRider creates a safe, non-curling, endless wave that is endlessly fun to ride.  Riders can slide down and ride up the wave surface and carve turns, emulating the manoeuvres of other board sports.
 
Hot water zones are an added feature that aid programming exibility by allowing variation in water  temperature for specic pockets of the MSAC Flow Rider.

Q. Where will the MSAC FlowRider be located 

A. The FlowRider will be located in the outdoor leisure area alongside the outdoor pool.

Q. When will the MSAC FlowRider be open to the public?

A. Construction has commenced and the MSAC FlowRider will be open to the public in mid-November 2011.

Q. How much water will the MSAC FlowRider use?

A. 113,562 litres (30,000 gallons) of water a minute ow as fast 32 km/h over a plastic surface similar to a  wrestling mat to generate a thin, fast-moving sheet of water. 

MSAC recognises the importance of responsible water use and in line with our best practice for environment management, the water from the outdoor competition pool will be recycled via MSAC’s back wash system (as with all pools) to operate the FlowRider.

Q. Who can ride the MSAC FlowRider?

A. The FlowRider is a safe ride but with any rigorous activity there are risks involved so we have the following guidelines to ensure you and your family can enjoy the FlowRider safely:
  • You must be over 110cm to bodyboard and over 140cm to ride standup on the FlowRider.
  • You must be able to swim in fast-moving, turbulent water.
  • All instructions from the MSAC FlowRider Team must be followed at all times.
  • Do not participate if you have had any recent surgery or illness.
  • Do not participate if you have any health ailments. 
  • Do not participate if you are pregnant.
  • Do not participate if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
All riders must sign a waiver in order to ride. Riders under 18 years of age require a legal guardian to sign the waiver. A full safety briefing is provided to Riders before riding under the supervision of MSAC’s FlowRider team.

Q. Can I book a party or a corporate function?

A. MSAC FlowRider will be available for parties for children and adults and also for corporate bookings. 
 
Children parties are managed by our Children’s Programs team.
 
Parties for adults and corporate functions are managed by our Events and Bookings team. There will be different set options available to suit small and large groups with catering available.

Q. Will the MSAC FlowRider aect members and guests who regularly use the outdoor pool?

A. MSAC’s full range of existing aquatic facilities will remain available for community access, swimming lessons and general health and wellbeing.
 
Members will continue to enjoy the benefits of their membership with discount and reward options extended to this newest leisure water activity.
 
Communications to our Members will continue via our standard services or web, MSACMobile smart phone application, monthly member e-newsletters, in facility signage, email and via our membership services staff.

Q. How much does it cost to ride the MSAC FlowRider and how will it be programmed?

A. Price, programming and promotions for the MSAC FlowRider will be released via the Melbourne Sports Hub’s Facebook and Twitter in August.  Be sure to join these pages to get the latest release information, take advantage of some awesome specials and be one of the first to ride the FlowRider!
